Past, Present, and Future: Black History Sunday

Where have we been? Where are we now and what does God have in store for our future? We’ll ponder these questions on Black History Sunday, February 26, at both services.

This year’s speaker is our very own Vivian Wyatt, and the services will be full of worship, song, and praise, featuring a combined choral number by the Gospel Choir, the Sanctuary Choir, and some of our members who sing in various groups in the city.

A potluck will follow the 11:00 am worship service, and the church will supply the main dish. If you plan to stay for lunch, please bring a side dish or dessert to share. If you’d like to help with setup or in the kitchen, please contact the church office and we’ll put you in touch with LaTrice Moralez, who is heading up the potluck.

Growing Closer Together

In March we’ll launch four new Oasis Groups. These are exciting new opportunities to build strong friendships. The host homes will be announced in the next couple weeks.

If you’d like to stay in the loop as things develop, please contact the church office and let us know which Oasis you’re interested in.

Eastside Oasis, Wednesdays at 7:00 pm, led by Pastor Vivian (starts March 7)
Northside Oasis, Thursdays at 7:00 pm, led by Pastor Jeff (starts March 22)
Westside Oasis, Tuesdays at 7:00 pm, led by Pastor David (starts March 13)
Young Adult Oasis, Wednesdays at 7:00 pm at church, led by Katrina Davis and Steve Hadt (starts March 14)

Play Dates for Babies and Toddlers (and Parents)

If you are the parent of a baby or toddler you know how important it is to have play dates — for you and for your little one! Because there are so many families connecting to our church we want to provide a space for those play dates.

Beginning February 7 at 10:00 am, the church will host a monthly Play Date on the first Tuesday of the month. This is a chance for parents to connect while their little ones play. We hope to see your family on Tuesday, February 7 at 10:00 am!

Registration is not required. Contact Melody Merida if you need more information.

Singles’ Dinner & Duckpin Bowling: February 11

Attention Singles: Who likes to bowl? Now who likes to Duckpin Bowl? Come join us in Fountain Square for 90 minutes of fun-filled bowling on Saturday, February 11 at 8:00 pm. The cost is $7.00 per person for both bowlers and non-bowlers. We will have dinner beforehand at Smokehouse on Shelby at 6:00 pm, and you can come for one or both activities.

Winter Escape for Families: February 11

Let’s shake off our winter doldrums together at Snapperz Family Fun Center! Snapperz in Carmel features 33,000 square feet of fun for the whole family. It’s the perfect place for kids to play while the adults get some good grown up socializing.

They have soft structure play units, laser tag, climbing walls, bumper cars, bowling, bungee trampoline, games, food, and a toddler area for the little ones. Families of all ages are invited to join in the fun Saturday, February 11, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The cost is $10 for children ages 4-17, $3 for children ages 2 and 3, and free for adults and children under 2. Admission gets you four hours of fun on the main attractions (the inflatables and the soft structure play units). Other attractions and food are extra.

LifeJourney Goes to Orlando

This past weekend (January 6-7) Pastor Jeff presented four workshops at the Gay Christian Network Conference in Orlando, Florida. Meanwhile, David Squire, our Communications Director, staffed a booth at the conference offering books and materials published by LifeJourney Press, our publishing ministry.

The Gay Christian Network (GCN) operates one of the most popular web-based support organizations for LGBT Christians. GCN’s conferences typically draw about 500 participants, and provide a wonderful opportunity to promote our resources.

Jeff presented two workshops based on the book he co-authored, The Children Are Free. The third workshop was about our church’s discipleship materials — Discipleship 101 and 102. The fourth workshop presented our Pastoral Training Program to those who feel called to ministry.

Thanksgiving and Christmas at LifeJourney Church

November 20: Our traditional Giving Tree will be ready. We’re purchasing gifts for Indiana Youth Group, a safe haven for LGBT teens and young adults, and Dayspring Center, our ministry partner that assists homeless families. Complete instructions and due dates are on the gift tags, which are available in the social hall at church. Contact David Squire if you have questions.

November 20: The Children’s Ministry will explore the origins of Thanksgiving through stories, games, crafts, and, of course, food! Preschoolers through fifth graders are invited to the festivities during both morning services.

November 24: Our traditional Thanksgiving Day Dinner will happen from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It’ll be a great time with good food and church friends. The church will provide turkey and ham. Please bring a side dish or dessert to help complete the meal, if you can. If you plan to attend, please contact Melody Merida so we can plan appropriately.

December 3: Couples’ Christmas Party. Dinner at Chile Verde at 7:00 pm followed by dessert and a white elephant gift swap at the church. Contact Doug Snow to RSVP or for more info.

December 8 and 9: Sing Joy! Christmas Concert at 7:00 pm. Join us for a casual, cozy, contemporary Christmas concert, with a classic reading of the Christmas story. Concert participants include the Children’s Choir, the Gospel Choir, the Sanctuary Choir, the Instrumental Ensemble and guest Charlie Morgan of the local band Hyryder.

December 18: Birthday Party for Jesus! The Children’s Ministry will hold a birthday party in Jesus’ honor, complete with games, prizes, birthday cake, and a visit by Jesus himself.

December 24: Christmas Eve Open House at Jeff Miner and David Zier’s home from 1:00 to 7:00 pm. Drop in any time from 1:00 to 7:00 for Christmas dinner and a relaxed time with church friends. This is not a pitch-in, and all are welcome. Contact the church office for directions.

December 25: Christmas Remembrances. Join us on Christmas Sunday at our regular worship times for a one-hour service of carols, scriptures, and Holy Communion. We’ll have you out in an hour for the rest of your busy day!

Tuesday is election day, so be sure to vote!

For the first time ever, a member of our church, Zach Adamson, is running for an at-large seat on the Indianapolis City-County Council. We are very proud of Zach, but we cannot and do not endorse any candidates.

Weigh 2 Go: Your Weight Loss Support Group

Would you like to lose weight and live healthier? Would you like some support for this journey? On November 13, after each worship service, there will be an interest meeting about such a support group.

We’re seeking your input on what you’d find useful in a weight loss support group and sharing ideas about how this group can work for all of us.

Stacy Cook, a healthcare attorney who has lost 10 dress sizes and has kept it off for several years, will be facilitating this group. Stacy’s journey began when she learned a poor diet as a youngster, and gained weight as an adult for all the usual reasons.

This group will be for anyone who is seeking to lose weight and be healthier, and who wants to support each other spiritually on our weight loss journey. It does not matter if you are trying to lose a lot or a little, we will be here to support each other.

Join us at church on November 13 after either worship service. If you can’t attend one of these meetings but are interested in the group, please email the church office.

Singles Social Group: New Leader and Facebook Page

Donna Martin has taken the reins of the Singles Social Group:

“I am excited and grateful for this opportunity to lead the Singles Group. I first attended LifeJourney Church in June and I knew immediately it’s where I belong. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you and I’m confident we can put together a lot of fun activities for all to enjoy.”

Our next event is a Trivia Night at the church on Saturday, November 12 at 7:00 pm. Bring a snack and your favorite non-alcoholic beverage. There will be something for everyone and prizes will be awarded. You can RSVP to the church office.
