L3: Love Looks Like — New Oasis begins May 5

Friday, April 29th, 2011

What does love look like in action? This new Oasis will explore that question by using the Going Deeper guides each week as a foundation for exploration. This group will connect their learning with doing; there will be active work in the community to put love into action. The Oasis leader is Tommy Chittenden.

Please join us and discover what “Love Looks Like”! The group will meet each Thursday evening beginning May 5 at 7:00 pm at the church. If you need more info, please contact the church office.

For a list of all Oasis groups, see this page or the flyer at the info kiosk.

Help feed the hungry: Damien Center Food Pantry

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Beginning Sunday, October 17, we will collect food and toiletries for the Damien Center Food Pantry. This outreach is being coordinated by the Fellowship Galactica Oasis.

The Damien Center provides services and resources for those who are affected by HIV/AIDS. Over 70% of the Center’s clients live below the poverty level, and the Food Pantry is an essential resource for them. The Pantry relies on the generosity of people like you to keep it running.

The pantry is especially in need of:

  • canned protein goods: beef, chicken, spam, peanut butter,
  • canned fruit (fruit cocktail, peaches, pears) and
  • laundry detergent.

They also welcome canned vegetables, soup, pasta and rice, spaghetti sauce, and toilet paper and other toiletries. The don’t need snack foods, like popcorn or candy.

We’ll have a collection table in the social hall on October 17, and we’ll finish the collection the following week. Questions? Please see Fellowship Galactica leader Dave Wene, or contact him via the church office.

New Face-to-Face Online Oasis

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

The Face-to-Face Online Oasis, led by Theresa Mull, is our first experiment in online Oasis!

What keeps you from participating in Oasis? Work? Distance? Time of day? If you answered yes to any of those questions, here’s your opportunity.

Each week we will have discussions based on Sunday’s sermon on Jesus MCC’s Facebook page. Become a “fan” at facebook.com/JesusMCC, and join us on the “Discussions” tab.

If you aren’t able to attend a Sunday service, you can still take part in these discussions by watching the webcast at JesusMCC.org/listen. The sermon is posted each Sunday afternoon, and the Face-to-Face Oasis discussions begin on Tuesday each week.

New Positively + Oasis

Friday, November 14th, 2008

“If one member suffers, all suffer together with them; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with them.” 1 Corinthians 12:26

Are you affected by HIV/AIDS? Are you looking for ways to find support and grow spiritually? Welcome to the Positively + Oasis! Please plan to attend with a heart attuned to learning what plans God has for your future! We will look at ways to grow and praise God.

We will begin meeting the first week in December on Wednesday evenings at the Church. The Group is open to anyone who is affected by HIV/AIDS. For the first few meetings, we will get acquainted, share stories, and decide together how the Group will function.

Then we will study The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, with an emphasis on how those affected by HIV can look forward and determine God’s purpose for their lives. If you would like to attend or want more information, please contact Oasis leader Larry Gist via the church office. Confidentiality will be respected in the Positively + Oasis.

Family Oasis Update

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Exciting news! The brand new Family Oasis that kicked off last month with a three week trial was a smashing success. We had an average of 15 adults and 8 children each week! Those families who joined us on this brave new adventure have decided to continue meeting every other Wednesday as the Family Oasis.

We will be starting fresh this Wednesday, February 27 with the study of a wonderful book, On Being a Gay Parent by Brett Webb-Mitchell. This book deals with complicated issues such as coming out to your kids, navigating the school system and the challenges your children might face there, surviving the holidays, and much more. The best part — it’s written with a Christian perspective.

For more info, contact Melody Merida at (317) 722-0000 or mmerida@jesusmcc.org, or just join us on Wednesday evening.
