About LifeJourney Church
LifeJourney Church is passionate about following Jesus, serious about the Bible, genuinely diverse, and theologically open minded. We embrace Progressive Evangelical values.
We are an imperfect congregation led by imperfect leaders. We often make mistakes, and even stumble and fall. But we strive to learn from our mistakes and to become more genuine and effective as God shapes us through our experiences.
Some interesting facts about our Church:
- Our current Sunday worship attendance averages about 400. We are a multi-ethnic, multi-generational congregation of spiritual activists.
- We are in the top 10% of churches in Indianapolis in terms of racial and ethnic diversity.
- We have developed a comprehensive discipleship program known as SoulShift that includes multiple high-impact courses and encourages people to take charge of their spiritual lives by developing customized Soul Care Plans.
- We have over 20 different service teams in our Church that provide powerful ministry to homeless people, homeless animals, gay and transgender youth, the Navajo Nation, and villages in the south of Sudan.
- We have a publishing ministry devoted to developing Christian resources for Emerging Churches, in general, and for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, in particular.
- We were the original pilot congregation to develop and deploy the “Would Jesus Discriminate?” Billboard Campaign that made national news.
- The resources we offer on our Church website, including our webcast and our daily devotional, provide critical spiritual support for many who write us from around the globe.
- We are a member congregation of a denomination known as the Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC). MCC arose in the late 1960s as Churches of refuge for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. A majority of our current congregants are LGBT, but as barriers are falling and culture is becoming increasingly integrated, the demographic of our congregation is shifting. Increasingly, we find that straight families are choosing to worship at LifeJourney Church because they love our approach to being Church and the values we represent. We are the largest Emerging Church in Indiana.
- Our congregation has adopted a 25-Year Strategic Plan that describes how we believe God’s Spirit is calling us into the future.
