What Is a Progressive Evangelical Christian?

We are passionate about Jesus.

We believe Jesus is Lord and Savior. Although we deeply respect other religions and spiritual perspectives, we are clear that we are seeking God through Jesus Christ.

We are serious about the Bible.

We believe the Bible is a living book that invites us into active dialogue with God — not some dusty ol’ book of rules frozen in time. We believe that following Jesus is more about relationship than rules.

We celebrate diversity.

We strive to reproduce the radical welcome of Jesus. We affirm participation by women in all aspects of leadership and use inclusive language. We affirm the full dignity of both straight and gay relationships.

We encourage independent thought.

We are united by our passion for Jesus and emphasis on the Scriptures, but feel it is critical that each Christian work out the details of his or her faith.

We believe that following Jesus is not just a part of life, but a way of life.

We are deeply committed to the importance of both personal transformation and global transformation. We are determined to do all we can to heal the world: Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
