Today’s scripture: Luke 17:7-10 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (James Hendrix):
For several years, I worked as an assistant principal at an elementary school. One day a student named Jonathan hit another boy as the two were playing on the playground. In my office, I asked Jonathan about the scuffle. Jonathan said the other boy would not share a basketball with him. “What are the rules?” I asked. “No hitting,” Jonathan said, as tears streamed down his face. I told Jonathan what his consequences would be, and he promised that he would work diligently to obey the rules.
Just as Jonathan promised to follow the rules of his school, God’s children are expected to live by the standard that God has given – God’s word. Today’s scripture reminds us that obeying God is a privilege. If we say we love God, we must obey God. When we choose to love and obey God, our lives will be transformed and we will be made more God-like.
Thought for the Day: We show God our love through obedience.
