Today’s scripture: Luke 23:44-46, Psalm 31:1-5 (NRSV) (The Message)
As you read, consider: What might God be saying to me? Summarize your thoughts in a sentence or two.
My thoughts (Tammy Mills):
What do you put your trust in? Ultimately, Jesus put all his trust in God. His final words were to commit his spirit into God’s hands. Even though Jesus felt forsaken he still trusted in God’s power and purpose.
While at the general convention of our denomination in Calgary, I had the scary experience that required a lot of trust. My partner and I went up the big “space needle tower”. It was awesome up there. You could see forever!
I was enjoying myself until I came to the section of the tower where there is no steel to stand on! One small section of the tower’s floor is glass! I wasn’t sure if I could step out onto it or not. Nancy assured me it was an amazing view as she stood out there in thin air!
It took me a while, but ultimately I shut my eyes and stepped out onto the glass floor. When I got the courage to open my eyes I found she was right. The view and the exhilaration were mind blowing. I’m glad I managed to get the courage to step out and trust that glass floor! (There is a new one similar at the Grand Canyon…if your ever there check out the glass floor over the canyon!)
God’s hands are even more trustworthy than that glass floor! Jesus makes that point with his final word.
Thought for the day: Do you put your trust in God’s hands? Or do you put your trust in something else?
