Regifting

Today’s scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (Angie Eden):

Selecting a gift for someone requires marksmanship. Choosing just the right thing takes talent; a talent many of us do not possess. We wander from store to store, aisle to aisle, website to website and still manage to purchase something that is the wrong color, wrong size, or wrong style. We miss the mark.

Lucky for us, God gives gifts with laser-like precision. At our conception, God begins to personalize and neatly wrap a unique gift that is placed inside our heart where it waits for us to find it, rip it open, and show it off to everyone we meet. The treasures on the inside of us vary as much as the outside of us but they have two things in common: who they came from and who they are to go back to.

Paul tells the Corinthians and, in so doing, tells all of us that God has a variety of gifts to share among us. He further explains what many of these treasures look like as they manifest in our lives. Verse eleven ends by emphasizing the fact that our unique gift was allotted to us “individually just as the Spirit chooses.” Have you unwrapped your special gift from God? Are you re-gifting it by using it to further the work Jesus started?

Thought for the day: Give thanks for God’s gift to you. Name it and share it with someone in your life. Challenge yourself to seize an opportunity to re-gift it.
