Today’s scripture: Genesis 7 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (Carla Peck):
How many days will I be away? How many different pieces of clothing will I need? What will the temperature be? What type of book will I want to read? Oh, let’s be ready for anything and pack spiritual, self-help, biography, and fiction books — and a couple magazines too.
In today’s scripture, God commands Noah to board the ship and take on board with him seven pairs of every clean animal (a male and a female); one pair of every unclean animal (a male and a female); and seven pairs of every kind of bird (a male and a female) to ensure their survival on Earth.
I think it’s significant to note that God didn’t say to fill the ship with enough cows and chickens so that Noah and his family would have enough protein to eat for 40 days, and forget the rest.
Prayer for the day: God, I continue to be in awe of Your creativity in designing the diversity within all that You have created. Wild and domestic beings, creatures with wings, some that crawl, those that walk, a few with tails — how beautiful and amazingly wonderful is all Your creation!
We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the suggestions on the How to Pray page.
