Today’s scripture: Luke 12:54-59; Matthew 26:2; Mark 8:11-13 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (James Hendrix):
One summer night during a camping trip, I decided to take a walk on a sandy trail that I thought would be easy to follow. Eventually I turned back and headed toward my campsite. Although I did not realize it, I had stepped onto another trail. I had failed to pay attention to the camp’s directional signs. It was dark, and I did not have a lantern or flashlight with me. I panicked. I prayed and then noticed that the moon would provide just enough light for me to find the right path. Soon I found the trail to my campsite.
Sin darkens our eyes and hearts, often leading us to the point where we fail to see God’s greatness. Like the Pharisees in the book of Mark, we might even look for signs instead of believing the promises God has already given. Today, God invites us to trust him and follow his compass–the Bible–as he leads us in new directions.
Thought for the day: Lord, thank you for the wisdom that comes from your word.
