Today’s scripture: Psalm 80:1-3 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (James Hendrix):
On clear nights I often go outdoors to look at the stars that decorate the sky. Scientists have estimated that there are some 200 to 400 billion in our galaxy, the Milky Way. With the naked eye we can see only a few thousand stars at any given time. According to German scientist Werner Gitt, if we could count three stars each second for a hundred years, we will have counted less than five percent.
Stars are just a small part of God’s creation. In God’s sovereignty, God created all things: the heavens that contain all the stars in the galaxies, light and darkness, Earth, and human beings. Thousands of years ago, the Magi saw and followed the star to see the Christ child. Today, our mighty God invites us — even in our weakness — to know and follow. When we accept God’s invitation and obey God, we can rejoice and declare God’s surpassing greatness.
Thought for the day: God, our creator, thank you for your absolutely amazing creation. Amen.
