Today’s scripture: Acts 3:1-10 (NRSV) (The Message)
As you read, consider: What might God be saying to me? Summarize your thoughts in a sentence or two.
My thoughts (Julie Benson):
Do you believe power, miracles, and great acts of faith were reserved for only those living in biblical times?
We see the healers on TV; we read the stories in the National Enquirer. Are these performances by magicians and tales conjured up by storytellers?
Whether or not each portrayal we see or read is true is not for me to determine. What I do believe, though, is that there is room for God to work in mighty ways in each of us.
Through history, God has blessed the ordinary with real gifts of power and life: Noah, Rahab, Ezekiel, Mary, Peter… Their acts may be extraordinary, but remember that those whom God chose were nothing more than regular folks trying to make it by from day to day.
God is in you and ready to do great works!
Prayer for the day: Lord, you have given me all that I have. You offer me so many invisible but real gifts — gifts with eternal value. The gift of Your Spirit empowers me far beyond my own capacities. The gift of Your forgiveness enables me to forgive. The gift of Your mercy and grace enable me to extend the same kindness to others. You have made me to be a storehouse of Your blessings, Lord. Please work through me to impart those blessings to others.
We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the guidelines on the How to Pray page.
