Today’s scripture: Psalm 2 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (Sue Robinson):
The Psalms are full of majestic words and language. So I was interested to read this Psalm in “The Message” version of the Bible.
“Why the big noise, nations? Why the mean plots, people? Earth leaders push for position and meet for summit talks”.
Does this sound like our world today? I guess times never change! At first God is amused at our puny efforts to control our world and our circumstances. Then God no longer finds it cute. Doesn’t that remind you of our dealing with children in our lives? They can talk back, act up, and do other things that seem funny at first but become wearing in the long run. Eventually we have to put a stop to it!
The Psalmist says that we need to worship God in awe and reverence. God is in control. We can’t depend on our own efforts or those of any human leader or country. This version says “Run to God…you won’t regret it!”
Prayer for the day: Lord, we look to you for our strength and guidance. You are always there and always in charge! Amen.
We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the suggestions on the How to Pray page.
