Today’s scripture: Psalm 9 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (James Hendrix):
Several years ago, some friends of mine lost their home in a fire. Although the family escaped without any injuries, they lost all their possessions. Furniture, clothing, family photographs, and souvenirs all were destroyed. When I spoke with the husband a few days after the fire, he described the intensity and speed of the blaze. Within minutes, he told me, several rooms had burst into flames, barely allowing his family to escape. “We lost everything,” he said, “but I’m not worried about what’s ahead for us.” He was simply thankful that his family was safe.
The Scriptures promise that God will be with us as we face difficult circumstances. During times when we feel powerless, we can rest in God’s presence and love. To be sure, good people are not exempt from disasters and tragedy. Nevertheless, we can trust God to be our help whether times are good or bad.
Thought for the day: God can help us in any situation.
