Today’s scripture: Psalm 46 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (James Hendrix):
A few years back a dear friend of mine died. She had suffered with Alzheimer’s disease for several years and, over a period of time, had lost the ability to carry out even the simplest of daily activities. After her death I spoke with her son, who described the years of suffering his mother had endured and the challenges he and his family had faced in caring for her. He told me that despite these difficulties, his faith had grown stronger because he knew that God was with him and that God would give him the strength to face his hardships.
No matter what adverse circumstances we face, we can walk with greatly diminished fear by stepping out on the promises of our loving God. Remember that God has not left us helpless in this world. The Lord almighty is our refuge and strength, and he is with us as we enter and walk through our battlefields.
Thought for the day: Lord, thank you for your faithfulness to us. Amen.
