Today’s scripture: Psalm 45 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (E’sha Cooper):
Psalm 45: 2 –Thou art fairer than the children of people: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Our world is physically driven, wouldn’t you say? We are swimming in ideas of physical beauty, the “right” clothes and the “hottest” image. We have pageants, contests, reality shows and so much more that focuses on what’s on the outside. We often try to live up to the standards that society places on physical appearance and image and we more often than not seek out a partner or spouse that gives us the feeling that he/she is everything or close to everything that the world/society says,” Is in.” Well in today’s scripture reading, Psalm 45, GOD gives us a glimpse of what GOD finds attractive.
First, GOD is attracted to a person who has gracious speech (v.2); you speak to others in a way that enables them to feel loved and supported. Next, GOD is attracted to the person that is a fighter (v.3,5), fearless when it comes to defending his/her spiritual territory. GOD is also attracted to a person who’s lifestyle is transparent, honest, humble and holy (v.4). You live life in such a way where you don’t have to live in fear or shame about who you are. You have impeccable character, you say what you mean and you mean what you say. You know that without GOD you could do nothing. Additionally, GOD is attracted to a person that is constantly striving to live life to its fullest (v.4b). You explore, investigate, dive into life with the persistent expectation that if you’ll seek, you’ll find (Matthew 7:7-8). Lastly, GOD is drawn to the person who’s heart is like HIS(v.7). You love what GOD loves and that is righteousness; love inspired actions.
I know that for most of us the message that is preached to us more often is that we should, must and have to look good on the outside to be attractive. The TRUTH is that the only way you will ever look good is by being attractive to GOD.
Prayer for the day: Merciful Savior, may I consistently dress my self up in a way that catches Your eye and captivates Your attention. Help me to beautify my soul and spirit. In JESUS name. Amen.
