Today’s scripture: Psalm 62 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (David Zier):
How many times have I put trust in someone or something and I end up being disappointed? When I get an idea about something, at times I can get impatient and want it to happen RIGHT NOW! I feel the obsessive compulsiveness building inside of me wanting it to come about quickly. “Oh God, I want it now!” We can get this way about our ideas, food, clothing, money, people, relationships, careers, etc. It seems we can put our trust in whatever it is we want to be the thing that fills something inside of us.
Does it keep us full? Does it keep us satisfied? When we put our trust in things or people, it may fill the “right now” feeling for a fleeting moment, but that eternal longing we have for acceptance, love and life goes on. That is where God’s love and God’s grace comes in.
When I sit with God, I am comforted knowing that God’s grace can fill me. Knowing that I am accepted unconditionally for who I am relieves me of that “right now” feeling. But I have to intentionally do things that bring more awareness of God into my life. The energy we can put into getting those “right now” feelings to fill us is the same energy we can channel to bring us into the presence of God. Spend more intentional time in prayer, lift breath prayers throughout the day, bless others, and leave yourself reminders in places you frequently use, e.g. the kitchen, office, bathroom, etc. As the psalmist says, “that power belongs to God, and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.”
Thought for the Day: What is it you want “right now”? And is it filling you the way God can? How are you grabbing more God in the “right now”?
