Today’s scripture: Psalm 66 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (Sue Robinson):
I have always loved reading and hearing stories of people who were pulled from the very clutches of sin and moved into a life of service to God. Their autobiographies are riveting and moving. Mine is bland.
I have never done things like been in jail, taken drugs, (ok, I did smoke for years!), or gone on a cross-country run from the law. I’ve done your normal, everyday dumb stuff like stealing Lee Press-on Nails from Woolworth’s dime store and lying … oh, lying was my nemesis!!
But those who can thank God for saving them from a life of drug dealing, murder, major theft, and all kinds of evil corruption have much to be thankful for! Where would they be today if not for God’s saving grace?
But what about me? Where would I be? I need forgiveness as well. Verses 16, 18-19 says,” Come and hear, all you who fear [respect] God, and I will declare what [God] has done for my soul…. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear. But certainly God has heard me. [God] has attended to the voice of my prayer.”
God has forgiven me for everything, the big and the small: all the evil thoughts, the bad temper tantrums, the sins of omission that could have made a difference in someone’s life. Verse 20 says it all: “Blessed be God who has not turned away my prayer nor [God’s] mercy from me!”
Prayer for the day: Thank you, Lord, for making me see that you have already forgiven us. Help us to always be mindful and thankful of this. Amen!
