Today’s scripture: Psalm 80 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (E’sha Cooper):
After you read today’s passage, I bet you felt a little heavier in your spirit. The psalmist is crying out about all the trials and tribulations and the woes that have surrounded him. He declares that God is angry with him and the children of Israel (v. 4) and that is the reason for all his grief. Yet, I believe that the people of God just haven’t been eating right. Just like it’s easier to meet the demands of life when you have been fueling your body with lots of fresh fruits and veggies, good protein and water; the same applies to how much smoother life flows when you fuel your soul with God’s Word, praise/thankfulness, prayer, and applying your faith. If you feel like you’re drained and your energy is low, refuse to continue feasting on tears (v. 5) and dig in and taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalms 34:8). Your spirit and soul will thank you.
Prayer for the day: Lord Jesus, lover of my soul, when the temptation to focus on my troubles comes to distract me, help me to choose to feast and delight in the sweetness of fellowship with you. Amen.
