Today’s scripture: Psalm 27:1-5 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (Tammy Mills):
Our cat, Fergie, is scared of everything! He wants to socialize and play, but as soon as he comes out of hiding something will move or there will be a noise and he immediately runs back to his favorite hiding places. His fear really keeps him from enjoying a rich full life.
Our other cat, Murphy is the opposite — she seems fearless. Nothing fazes her! There is no noise too loud or place too interesting that she isn’t brave enough to explore.
Sad to say, but I think I am more like Fergie than Murphy. I can let me fears paralyze me. There are things I would love to do or say, but fear keeps me immobile and silent.
Today’s scripture helps me remember I don’t have to be afraid. I am not alone. What a comfort to my heart to remember that I have a God who longs to protect and encourage me and a God who can hold my fears while I take a leap of faith.
I think I will try to be a bit more like Murphy this week…
Question for today: What would you do if you just had the courage?
We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the guidelines on the How to Pray page.
