Today’s scripture: Isaiah 14:1-23 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (Ernest Disney-Britton):
Babylon is one of the most infamous of ancient cities, and, during this political season, we often hear of America being labeled as a modern-day Babylon. Babylon was the richest city in the world and a center of art and education. Isaiah 14:1-23 tells about the destruction of this once-great city-state of Babylon and the death of its proud monarch. In many ways, it is a story about temptation pitting God’s people against those who lust for wealth and power.
Thought for the day: During this political year, Isaiah 14:1-23 speaks to God’s people about choosing between a pursuit of peace and a pursuit of destruction. Which will you choose?
