Today’s scripture: Isaiah 16:1-13 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (David Zier):
We have heard of the pride of Moab
–how proud he is!–
of his arrogance, his pride, and his insolence;
his boasts are false.
Therefore let Moab wail,
let everyone wail for Moab.
How do we react when we encounter someone who is arrogant? Do thoughts start popping in your mind? Things like —
- He/She thinks they know everything!
- She/he thinks they are just hot stuff!
- They certainly have a high opinion about him/her self.
- I wish something would happen to know them off that pedestal.
- I want to do something to knock them off that pedestal.
- I bet he/she is really insecure. I feel sad for them.
What if that prideful person was ourselves? Would I recognize it?
There are times in our lives when we all can be a little arrogant… or a lot! We think we know better than anyone, including God. We ignore those around us because we only value our own thoughts and opinions… I’m always right! Glorify me! …somebody stop me!

What about me? How do I let pride get in the way?
Thought for the day: How does pride get in the way of how I connect to God and with others?
