Today’s scripture: Isaiah 22:1:14 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (David Zier):
When the going gets tough, sometimes we get anxious and try to do it all ourselves, and forget about letting God into the situation. Sometimes we can flee from a situation, and allow fear to consume us.
I had to get a job outside the church to secure good health insurance for Jeff and I. It is a good job as an Environmental Engineer, but it is super busy; there is always more to do that any time allows.
As I do this job, time management is so important. In the beginning I was fighting a losing battle. No matter how hard I stepped on the gas, there was no way to get caught up. I learned quickly that there was no such thing.
So, to take my sanity back, I made some important changes. No matter what, I pray at my desk each morning. Even if there is a pile stacked on my chair. No matter what, I take an hour at lunch, go for a walk, and have some time with God and be active. The work will always be there.
So what happened? I was more at ease and I was not so worried. The work gets done faster than when I fret over it. God fills a larger part of me at work when I take the time to do the things that keeps me connected. God as my partner helps me in crazy and difficult situations. That’s not what happened in today’s scripture. What about you?
Thought for the day: How will I allow God to be part of my difficult and crazy day?
We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the suggestions on the How to Pray page.
