Today’s scripture: Luke 2:15-19 (NRSV) (The Message)
As you read, consider: What might God be saying to me? Summarize your thoughts in a sentence or two.
My thoughts (Tammy Mills):
I am so glad Luke include the phrase “Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.” I move through life at the speed of sound, rarely stopping to treasure and ponder!
My life came to a complete stop about two weeks ago when we found out our oldest would have open heart surgery. The two days before she went into the hospital, I treasured and pondered more than I have in years. Suddenly each moment spent with family was priceless. Even the girls bickering in the back seat of the car made me ponder how awesome life is!
I took a thousand “snap shots” and stored them all on my internal hard drive — my soul. I am humbled by the thought that it shouldn’t take a major heart surgery to make me stop and treasure and ponder all the many wonderful blessings in my life. I am so glad Mary reminds us today to treasure and ponder!
Thought for the day: How can I make time this advent, to treasure and ponder the works of God in my life?
Today, let’s join together in prayer, asking God, “What do You think of my week that has just passed? What could I have done better?” Then spend some time listening.
We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. Use the item above as a starting point, or consider the guidelines on the How to Pray page.
