Today’s scripture: Matthew 14:13-21 (ESV-text and audio) (KJV) (The Message) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (Tammy Mills):
When I read this story I am always awe-struck by the disciples. Jesus hands them these little baskets of crumbs and tells them to give it to the people and let all 5,000+ eat. At least one of the disciples must have been a bit confused by Jesus’ actions. Surely one of them had to say, “Jesus, you have got to be kidding. The people will riot if I take only these crumbs to them!”
What Jesus asked the disciples to do wasn’t logical or even reasonable. Yet they did it, and sure enough, as they demonstrated their faith by stepping out with the crumbs of food, those crumbs became just enough!
I often think I have just a few crumbs! It surely isn’t enough to do the things the spirit is calling me to do! Yet when I do step out, I find it is just enough. This story reminds me I have enough! I can do whatever I am called to do because of what my higher power is doing with and in me! The faith of the disciples is a reminder to step out and trust.
Thought for the day: Am I stepping out in faith in the ways I am being called?
