Today’s scripture: Luke 1:26-38 (ESV-text and audio) (NRSV) (The Message)
As you read, consider: What might God be saying to me? Summarize your thoughts in a sentence or two.
My thoughts (Rev. Tammy Mills):
I remember reading this scripture as a young lesbian thinking that if I was ever to be a mom it would have to happen like it did for Mary. Growing up in rural Indiana I never saw a “gay family.” Never saw so much as a car with a rainbow sticker, back in my day! I would say in my most cynical voice, “Nothing is impossible for God — yeah, right.”
Flash forward a few decades (did I just say decades…boy, I am getting old!) and I find myself the mother of three amazing children. I’m not so cynical about that whole “nothing is impossible with God” thing anymore!
When I look at my three brilliant kids, sitting so sweetly in the back seat of my hot, little, red car, my eyes well up with tears. I am overwhelmed with the fact that I am living the dream I never even dared to dream when I was younger! (Other times, when the girls are bickering and the boy is crying I’m inclined to think of it more as a nightmare…)
Today this scripture reminds me to live in the land of possibility! Mary and Elizabeth are great examples of God doing the impossible!
Thought for the day: What in my life to I think is impossible? With God, is it really impossible?
