Faith & Patience
By Pastor Jason

Have you ever noticed that life sometimes has ways of offering you repeat lessons until you learn it? I noticed that pattern in my own life recently, in various areas (social, emotional, physical, financial, spiritual, etc.). Challenging times often foster an opportunity for great life-lessons; these lessons emerge and, if processed/learned, they make us stronger, more-beautiful souls in the world.

I was reflecting this week on how important it is for our personal development to not just go through problems, but to grow through them; and this growth/development requires us to exercise faith AND patience.

“And we want each one of you to show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope to the very end, so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
(Hebrews 6:11-12 NRSV)

This is a passage that really helps me and encourages me while doing this thing called life. I oftentimes make it personal, and say, “Through faith and patience, I inherit the promises!” For me, this means, that as I stick to the vision, and do the work that is before me to do, then I will walk in the fulfillment of the good that Spirit has shown me is for me.

This applies to relationship goals, parenting, ministry work, spiritual actualization, and any other deep-seated intentions or pursuits that occupy my life.

Patience is more a matter of the condition of the heart, and less about chronological time; yet, time is the pathway that the soul travels to develop and embody patience. Time is one of the refining mechanisms for our spiritual development. However, without faith, we might travel in time but lack the fuel to pursue hope and vision. On the other hand, having faith (and hope, vision, expectation, intention, etc.) without time doesn’t provide the opportunity for your own physical life to manifest the good.

Today, let’s thank God for the opportunity to manifest divine promises of goodness, justice and beauty, personally and in the world around us. Let’s learn our lessons, and resolutely affirm, “Through faith and patience, I inherit the promises!” This will help you to take that next step in faith that just may lead to the breakthrough you’ve asked for.
