Today’s scripture: Genisis 3:1-13 (ESV-text and audio) (KJV) (The Message) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (Tammy Mills):
I love this story! I can so relate to so many parts of it. Just to name a few. . .
- The man selling out the woman: “She told me to!”
- The woman wanting to be like God. Who wouldn’t?
- Discovering they are naked. (I won’t go into detail about how I relate to that!)
- Hearing God walk in the garden. Sometimes I believe I do hear God.
The take home for me today though, has to do with “misdirection”. I am reminded of how easy it is to hear a new argument and then — without much thought — change direction.
I find this happens a lot with my GPS. She tells me one way to go. (I have it on the English female voice, and refer to her as My Sweet Maggie!) But I second guess her and head off in another direction that I think just might be the better way. Every time I do that, she says, in a rather disgruntled English accent, “Recalculating!” She seems a bit put off that I didn’t listen to her, but nonetheless, she points me once again in the right direction.
The serpent made a good argument. The first couple listened, but failed to get some wise council before they acted. As a result, their existence was recalculated. Today I am going to seek wise council from trusted sources before I abruptly make big changes.
Thought for the day: When God “recalculates” my life am I listening? Am I following?
