Today’s scripture: Job 37:6-14 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (David Zier):
Have you been thinking about your Personal Spiritual Action Plan a.k.a Rule of Life for 2019?
Jesus “praying” is mentioned nearly 30 times in the Bible. Considering how little there is of Jesus daily account of 3 years of ministry, he must have been in prayer a whole lot. If he needed it A LOT, what does that say about us? I imagine Jesus Personal Spiritual Action Plan had a list of many items and the first 5 were prayer. What does that say about us? If Jesus needed prayer, it must be something that WE REALLY NEED!
As we respond to assessment questions and start looking at the spiritual practices that will help sustain us, what are the life goals that are nudging at your heart? Log in to the website link at the end of this devotional, Spiritual Action Plan, and assess where you are right now, today, spiritually.
Are you ready to get started today? No matter what the weather forecast is in your life, it is never too late to do something to deepen or even rejuvenate your relationship with Christ.
LifeJourney Church suggests considering spiritual disciplines that will help us with our Spiritual Action Plan. They include Quiet Time (Prayer) using ways of prayer that benefit our soul, Worship with your church community, Connection with others for spiritual encouragement and accountability, Generosity with our resources, Service to and for others, and Discipleship, following Jesus.
What will be your life growth goals for 2019? Time Management? Work less hours? Live more simply? Start on an education? Get healthier? Make a career change? Improve and work on a relationship (spouse, relative or friend)?, Let go of anger? I could go on. Don’t make this a long list though! Let’s make sure we pick something where we can make a decision, and take one step at a time to follow through. Also, build in some accountability. Work with God to help you with your growth goals. Share something from your plan with your Oasis group (LifeJourney Church small groups if you take part) if you are comfortable, to help with accountability and encouragement.
When was the last time you carefully thought about and considered your discipleship journey? What does it mean for you at this time of your life to be a follower of Jesus? How does your Spiritual Action Plan fit into that?
You can turn in a hard copy form of your Spiritual Action Plan at the Welcome Desk at the Church. You can also fill one out at the link below.
Thought for the day: So where do you find yourself today? Have you made a decision, or rededication, to follow Christ – to allow Jesus to be your teacher, the one who guides you? How will you deepen your faith and relationship with God, and be transformed even more in Christ in 2019? What is God asking you to do on your Journey? We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the suggestions on the How to Pray page.
