My thoughts (Tammy Mills):
The third candle we light in Advent is the candle of Joy!
I am so lucky to have kids in my life — they are my teachers when it comes to joy! All three of my kids teach me every day what it is to truly live in joy. In this picture, I am swinging my little one in the air. He is completely powered by joy! He is completely trusting and completely giving himself to the power of joy and the moment! But also check out my face. I am feeling that same power of joy — receiving it directly from him!
What a blessing to tap into their joy energy. Watching them play or watching them discover something new always takes me to that place of joy!
Perhaps that is why Jesus came as a baby. The first lessen he had to teach was joy. The angels declared he would bring joy and I am sure his parents looked at him that first day and felt the pure energy of JOY!
This advent we need to open our hearts to the power of joy. We need to be reminded that Jesus came as a beautiful baby boy. Nothing can bring the power of joy like a baby!
Thought for the day: What can I do to welcome the energy of joy into my life?
We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the guidelines on the How to Pray page.
