Sing to the Lord!

Today’s scripture: Psalm 33 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (Sue Robinson):

Psalm 33 is a long passage full of adoration and praise. It was hard to settle on just one or two verses, but I continually returned to the first four verses.

Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous.
Praise befits the upright.
Praise the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to God with the harp of ten strings.
Sing to God a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all God’s work is done in faithfulness.

These few verses tell of praising God through music. Our voices, the harp, and the 10 stringed instrument are mentioned as wonderful ways to worship. I don’t know about you, but I would have to agree.

Those of us who attend formal worship services are familiar with the musical portion. We sing, we listen to selections by the choir or special groups, and this is meaningful to us. But have you ever tried this type of praise in your own personal time with God?

In our Discipleship classes at Life Journey Church, we are encouraged to do just that. Sing a song of praise just for God alone, listen to favorite CD’s with a worshipful heart, or use any musical talent or music vehicle that you might have to reach God’s ear. At first, you may fell slightly odd, but remember…God knows your singing voice or lack of professional ability with the guitar! It’s not your talent God seeks, but the intent of your heart and time spent with you!

Prayer for the day: Lord, thank You for giving us the gift of music. Let us return Your gift with praise to You! Amen

We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the suggestions on the How to Pray page.
