Dreamweaver

Today’s scripture: Genesis 40 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (David Zier):

Interpreting Dreams. They can seem so complex and complicated, but sometimes they can be so simple. A little while ago I had a dream about seeing someone I knew but had not spoken to in a long time. I interpreted the dream as a message to get hold of that person immediately. It turns out they were trying to get in touch with me but did not know how. They were dealing with a substantial crisis involving people I knew, and they wanted to talk with me. It was one of those God moments that can never be recreated. Thank goodness it was not a morbid interpretation like the one Joseph gave the baker!

Ever heard the song from the 70’s, Dreamweaver by Gary Wright? I always wondered what a Dreamweaver was supposed to be. After reading today’s passage, the song and that question came back to me.

A weaver is one who weaves fabric, so I thought that was significant. I could not find the word or term ‘Dreamweaver’ in a Webster’s dictionary. Going by the individual words that make up the word, one could say that a dreamweaver weaves our imagination with reality, or with God’s words, etc. I am just guessing here.

The urban dictionary defines Dreamweaver as a mystical soul in a state of coma that can do anything in his/her own dream. Only people in an eternal dream can be a Dreamweaver. Okay…so now what?

I found an interpretation of Gary Wright’s song Dream Weaver as follows: “Dream Weaver, I believe you can get me through the night… (from the lyrics),” was a song about someone with infinite compassion and love carrying us through the night of our trials and suffering. This is none other than God.

I love that interpretation. Using that interpretation and then reading the lyrics gives it a new meaning for me.

  • Dream Weaver by Gary Wright
  • I’ve just closed my eyes again;
  • Climbed aboard the dream weaver train;
  • Driver take away my worries of today;
  • And leave tomorrow behind;
  • Ooh dream weaver; I believe you can get me through the night;
  • Ooh dream weaver; I believe we can reach the morning light;
  • Fly me high through the starry skies;
  • Maybe to an astral plane;
  • Cross the highways of fantasy;
  • Help me to forget today’s pain;
  • Ooh dream weaver; I believe you can get me through the night;
  • Ooh dream weaver; I believe we can reach the morning light;
  • Fly me high through the starry skies
  • Maybe to an astral plane
  • Cross the highways of fantasy
  • Help me to forget today’s pain.

Now watch the video. This video is using images of the stars, the sky, the universe, the planets, the sun and moon. This is all part of creation. In context with the song, think about God weaving creation, and God carrying us through the day-to-day ups and downs of life.

Thought for the Day: Allow God to carry us through the trials of life. I believe You can get me through the night!
