Make God’s Unconditional Love Visible – Henri Nouwen Society

Luke 6:32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?”

Are we adept at loving others who don’t love us back? Or is it easier to just love those who love us, and write off everyone else? And our words for the person go in the direction of being discouraging, criticizing, maligning, and just negative. Think about what happens inside of us when we do that. What does it feel like when we don’t love, or when we actively refuse to love? We may think we are withholding love and it affects only them. In reality, we are drinking the poison and waiting for the other person to die. In a way, It can be a form of non-physical violence we seek for the other, but we are really perpetrating it on ourselves.

Please note, there are times when this could be viewed as a form of protection, especially in times of abuse, where it is important to get proper help and work things out accordingly. That is a special circumstance, and I do not intend to lump every circumstance together here.
