The Many Rays of Hope – Henri Nouwen Society

How would you define hope?

Merriam Webster defines it "to cherish a desire with anticipation" … to "desire with expectation."

In the Bible, "hope" is used as the confident expectation of what God has promised.

In the Old Testament, 'qawa' may denote 'hope' as a sense of 'trust.' "God is worthy of our trust."

Qawa is translated into Greek as 'hupomeno' which means "to wait", " to be patient," or "to endure."

In the New Testament, Paul uses "hope" the most in his letters, as trials leading to hope. When we hope for something, we wait through patience.
