Today’s scripture: Luke 12:1-7 (ESV-text and audio) (KJV) (The Message)
As you read, consider: What might God be saying to me? Summarize your thoughts in a sentence or two.
My thoughts (Tammy Mills):
I recently googled “ways to re grow hair” and got 314,000 hits! There is a lot of concern in America about hair loss! Everybody promises to “roll back the clock” or “create a natural look”. Despite all the millions spent to purchase these “miracle” products, I doubt much real hair really grows back!
This sent me to thinking about how much money I spend to “roll back the clock.” (Recently I have been mistaken for my baby son’s grandma, so I am frantically trying to “roll back the clock.” I might clean the clock of the next person who asks if I am his granny — I digress.) I spend money to cover up gray hair, to cover up spots, to have some hairs removed and others replaced. I purchase garments to tuck me in and push me up! I am considering eye surgery!
I guess I am struggling a bit with my own “older” reality!
Today I hear Jesus say to be who I am. Jesus seems to be warning his disciples to be who they are and not to become hypocrites like the Pharisees. The disciples are to keep it real — even if keeping it real means suffering harm! (Or having folks mistake you for your baby’s granny.) Jesus says that God knows what we are going through. God cares for us right down to the hairs on our head. (I guess God is as concerned for our hair as we are.)
God loves us! I must not be taken in by religious orders who try to make me something I am not. God knows my struggle and God is with me in the struggle.
Even if things get rough, God has my soul forever.
Thought for the day: Am I keeping it real?
