We Belong to God

Today’s scripture: John 10:1-18 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (James Hendrix):

Diane asked some of her friends to stop by her mother’s home one Saturday morning. Diane’s mother had died a few months earlier, and Diane wanted us to help pack some of her mother’s belongings. As we sorted through hundreds of items, Diane found a stack of letters that her father had written to her mother when he fought in the Korean War. In the letters, her father described his daily life during the war, and he ended each letter by telling his future wife how much he loved her. “What a precious gift I have inherited,” Diane said as she continued to read each letter.

Jesus, the good shepherd, has written our names upon his heart, and we are a precious inheritance to him. As Christ’s followers, his flock, we belong to a loving God who faced the cross and laid down his life for us. Through Christ’s sacrifice, we have been forgiven of our sins, and we can be assured that nothing will ever separate us from God.

Thought for the Day: Praise God, I belong to Christ.
