The Fullness of Time

Why did God wait so long to send Jesus? And while we’re on the subject, why do we now find ourselves waiting again for His second coming? What’s with all this waiting? Why is God so slow?

This sermon examines the first coming of Jesus, and the long wait that preceded it. We’ll discover clues that can help us in our own times of waiting.

Stagnation

It always seems to happen — in our spiritual lives, in our relationships, and everywhere else. Just when we get a good sense of momentum, something happens, and we end up cycling right back to where we started.

Why does it work that way? Our ancestors in the faith experienced the same thing, and in this sermon we will try to learn from their experience.

Take My World Apart

Bit by bit, little by little, life can take us apart. Gradually innocence and hope can turn to crusty cynicism. Something about this world just doesn’t seem right. So what’s going on?

This week we begin a new sermon series entitled “The Bible In Panorama.” We’ll travel from Creation to the Last Judgment in 8 weeks, exploring the major plot lines of the Bible. This Sunday we’ll explore the tragic stories embedded in the Genesis creation account, sometimes referred to as “the fall of humanity,” looking for clues to the meaning of life.

Balance

It’s a hard thing to find — in our individual lives and in any organization. But without it, we can veer into dangerous extremes.

Just a Bunch of Names

For several weeks we’ve been studying the book of Romans. As we come to the last chapter, it would be tempting to skip forward to whatever is next. After all, chapter 16 is just a bunch of names of people Paul acknowledges.

But buried within this dry list are stunning spiritual insights. This sermon will unlock the mystery of the names.

Live And Let Live

The only problem with people is. . . well, people. God makes each of us unique, then throws us all together and expects us to get along. How’s that supposed to work?

Romans 14 provides profound guidelines for living together in healthy community — in our families, at church, and at work.

Here I Am. . . Where Are You?

Imagine hearing God call your name in the quiet of the night to ask your help with a specific task. How would you respond? Excitement? Fear? Questions? All of the above?

This sermon explores God’s call on your life. This was our Indiana Black Pride Celebration Service with special guest preacher, Rev. Candy Holmes — who has recently made national news with her spiritual justice efforts in Washington, DC.
