My thoughts (Steve Adams):
I believe that life is wonderful — but it takes a lot of patience, doesn’t it?
It requires most of our energy to compete against sin and its consequences. It seems like almost every day, there’s something different to challenge us to the core. And when it’s fellow Christians who are the challenging element — who say loving, committed same-sex relationships are wrong (or that “condoning” them is wrong, if you’re an ally) — then even more patience is required. But, hey, no problem! Our God has an unlimited supply; all we need to do is tap into it!
The only way to deal with religious prejudice is to have lots and lots of fruit of the Spirit. Love helps us to shine God’s light, even if some churches teach that GLBT people are immoral. Joy gives us the strength to endure Christians who believe it’s their God-given duty to speak out against a vulnerable minority. Peace gives us the stability to maintain our presence of mind when fellow believers say same-sex couples weaken society.
Patience enables us to go on — to never give up the fight. Kindness gives us the ability to gently explain a more thoughtful way of seeing God. Generosity motivates us to give our time to tell about a logical, yet faith-filled view of the Bible.
Faith gives us the vision to know that God will prevail in the end. Gentleness helps us use an easy hand with those who stubbornly adhere to their religious illogic. Self-control helps us continue looking to God as we deal with this doctrinal epidemic of ignorance.
Peter urges us to “make every effort” to support our faith with goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. We can continue to live lives filled with the fruit of the spirit, and not be distracted by doctrines that could make us feel ashamed. For we know, Lord, I’ve got You, and You’ve got me — forever!
Thought for the day: Thank you Lord, for giving me the enthusiasm to assert the truth, knowing what a positive impact it will have on the souls of those who want to hear!
