Thanks for the Memories

Today’s scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 (NRSV) (KJV) (The Message) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (Dawn Horn):

Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Psalm 25:4

I can still remember my first grade teacher, Mrs. Wheeler, my second Mrs. Renner, my third, Mrs. Asher, my fourth Mrs. Bolton, my fifth Mrs. Carmichael, and my sixth, Mr. Whitaker. I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday but I still remember these wonderful people 45 years later.

They opened a new world to me — a world of new letters, numbers, books. (See Spot run. Run, Spot, run.) I pray that God has richly blessed them all. Probably most of them are deceased now but they will never truly be gone from my memory. Teachers are not respected enough in my opinion and they are definitely not paid enough.

I’ve been blessed to know dedicated, sincere, wonderful teachers who love their job and the children they teach. One such teacher I know is Greta. She is a 5th and 6th grade teacher in the special needs class. I truly have never seen a woman with such devotion, kindness, patience, and skill. The children grow in knowledge and you can see it right before your eyes. They adore her.

We who are Christians have an extraordinary Teacher, the Holy Spirit.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26

Wow! All things!

Our responsibility is to desire to learn, to use the tools given (the Bible, pastors, Sunday School teachers, other Christians, various authors, seminars, Bible college, the Internet, and more). We need to converse with our Teacher, to ask questions, listen, be open, and never stop learning.

Let those who are taught the word share in all good things with those who teach. Therefore, as we have opportunity let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6: 6, 10

Let’s “pass it on” in love, strengthening one another in faith.

Thought for the day: Holy Spirit, Great and awesome Teacher, may I be a good pupil and learn, remember, and share with others of Your bountiful knowledge. We want to know You more. In Christ alone, Amen.

We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the guidelines on the How to Pray page.
