Today’s scripture: Psalm 62 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

I have to admit to you that I truly love when I am asked, “Who is my favorite character in the bible?” Whether it’s in a class at school or a casual conversation with friends I will always answer David.
Of course, Jesus is the ultimate standard bearer in the bible but I have always found living a sinless life as Jesus did to be quite impossible. But King David, with all of his faults, imperfections, and repentant heart speaks directly to my spirit. David was not perfect. Like all of us, he stumbled. But when he saw his mistakes, he always admitted he was wrong and sought God again with all his heart.
In private before God, David cried out and asked that God would forgive him and restore his spirit:
“Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part you will make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow…Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities, Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with your generous Spirit.” (Ps.51:6-7, 9-12).
Notice David’s intent and motive. He wanted with all his heart to continue to be used by God, to be on the right track spiritually.
As I read the scripture for today, I see a king who feels as if he has nowhere to turn and no one to run to. The world seems to be out to get him and so he goes back to his true source of power.
I don’t know about you, but when I feel as if the world is coming to get me the first thing I do is go to God in prayer. God, you know better than anyone else what I am facing today. I need you and I know that you are faithful to walk with me as I face whatever the world throws my way.
If we were to take a moment and examine the life of David we would see that in spite of his challenges and obstacles, his hearts desire was to be right before God. David knew God had to clean him up in order to use him. David’s motive was to give. He wanted with all his heart to help others know and obey God.
Through faith, humility, patience, wisdom, and real repentance, David overcame his human nature, and developed godly character. He was a man after God’s own heart.
