A New Perspective!

Today’s scripture: Luke 9:10-17 (ESV-text and audio) (KJV) (The Message)

As you read, consider: What might God be saying to me in this passage? Summarize your thoughts in a sentence or two.

My thoughts (Rev. Tammy Mills):

I love this event in the life of the disciples! They’re being prudent. They urge folks to go home because there isn’t a place for them to get food before evening. They are doing what they believe best.

Jesus, though, has a different idea and urges them to change their perspective. He suggests they use the “little” they have to feed the whole bunch! Here is the miracle — the disciples get the nearly empty baskets from Jesus and when they take what they saw as just a little and pass it to the crowds, they’re able to see more than enough. They experienced the miracle of a change in perspective!

Last Friday, a storm really messed up our house and trees. In fact, we still have a tree sticking out of the roof of the girls bedroom. (Know any good tree people?)

The miracle has been the fun we have had laughing about the absurdity of the situation. We’ve had no electricity for five days. We have worn mismatched clothes because we’ve dressed in the dark. We have played in giant mud puddles with our Barbies (mind you, it wasn’t me playing Barbies). It really hasn’t been horrible. Instead of being defeated we have actually had a pretty good time. That is the miracle — a new perspective on the destruction around us!

Thought for the day: Where in my life do I need a miracle — a new way of looking in things?
