Today’s scripture: II Samuel 7:18-29 (ESV-text and audio) (KJV) (The Message) What might God be saying to me?

“Who am I, O Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And if this were not enough in your sight, O Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant. Is this your usual way of dealing with man, O Sovereign Lord?”
The life of David is one of many personal spiritual journeys recorded in scripture for us to “witness” — and the events in his life to this point have been most remarkable. From his early boyhood years tending his father’s sheep to his place as the mightiest King Israel had ever known, David’s ‘journey’ could not have more ups and downs and drama if Hollywood had scripted it. But even as King David sits before the Lord and offers this prayer expressing his humble acceptance of God’s promise to extend his dynasty forever, we — by benefit of history — know David was about to experience some of his darkest moments.
I’m blessed to be able to serve as a teacher — a guide — to some of the students at our church who take the Discipleship classes. One of the greatest blessings is the opportunity to hear their spiritual journeys. As each one walks and talks us through the peaks and valleys of their life — sometimes painful, sometimes unbelievable, sometimes familiar, but always personal — some remarkable thoughts, questions and conclusions occur in the minds and hearts of those who listen and observe.
While privileged to be a witness to the twists and turns, mountains and valleys of each one’s life journey, we intuitively know the journey continues! Like David, from whose lineage came the birth of the Son of God, fulfilling a covenant God made with him, we must learn from our personal history and trust in God’s faithfulness to walk beside us in all of our tomorrows!
Thought For The Day: Think about the journey your own spirit is taking. As I consider all I have experienced in life to bring me to today, can I use what has come before to encourage my faith?
