A Home That Never Changes

Today’s scripture: Psalm 90:1-2 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (Ben Lamb):

These two verses pack a lot of info!

When God (Lord) is described as a dwelling place, it seems to me that in order for us to be able to dwell in the Lord, we must do so in a spiritual sense. That is, God is someone who allows us to have spiritual communion and fellowship at all times. It isn’t a matter of “If you follow a plan of perfection, only then will I, God, allow you a dwelling place within Me.” Moses’ prayer isn’t prefaced with a laundry list of “must do” requirements; he makes a simple statement. This helps me to realize that I can always go to God no matter how I am.

Moses’ second statement that God has always been in existence — and always will be — is mind-boggling to me. It’s one of those points where I get to exercise faith in accepting it. To me, exercising faith is much different than choosing to blindly accept something without any thought. Taking someone else’s word for something without examining or thinking about it can lead me into all sorts of unfortunate results. However, when I try to figure out things that are out of my realm of understanding — such as “what’s the total number of stars?” — I choose to exercise a faith that there are just as many stars as God has determined there needs to be.

Thought for the day: God’s never-ending dwelling place is the perfect spot to call home.
