Today’s scripture: Genesis 25 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?
My thoughts (James Hendrix):
Several years ago, my friend Donna interviewed for a job in Atlanta. But the company decided to hire someone with more experience. “I believe God wants me to find a new job,” Donna told me, “so I don’t understand why I keep running into obstacles.” I asked her whether she had spent time praying about her concerns. She sounded surprised by my question, but later she admitted that she had not asked God for guidance.
Today’s Scripture shows us that Isaac understood the responsibility and impact of prayer. Although Isaac‘s wife, Rebekah, had been unable to have children, Isaac prayed faithfully that he and Rebekah would become parents. God did not answer Isaac’s prayer immediately, but, in time, he honored Isaac’s request and blessed Rebekah and Isaac with twin boys.
Sometimes we make decisions about our lives based on what we want to do. We ignore God, believing we know what is best for us. God wants each of us to experience a successful and fulfilled life, but God’s word tells us that true success comes only when we allow the Lord to take control of every area of our lives. As we pray and trust God, then the Lord will give us understanding and direction for our journey.
Thought for the day: God directs as we seek God’s will.
