Is There Enough of YOU in Your World?

Today’s scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:6 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (Kirsten Shaw):

Prior to joining LifeJourney, I worked at a gym for a handful of years. In my role, I welcomed the opportunity to network with other training facilities.

One of our coaches didn’t understand my delight in sharing my hard-earned lessons with “competitors”. However, I never saw it that way. Instead, I believed that there’s no such thing as “too many gyms” or “too many coaches.” As long as I approach my goals with a gratitude for abundance, I believe we will prosper.

A couple of months ago, I started seeing a counselor who has been instrumental in improving my mental health. Last week I told her about my experience at the gym and scarcity mentality. She acknowledged that she saw many examples of abundant-thinking in my life, but she also pointed out a bold truth: if I truly lived this concept within EVERY aspect of my world, I would inherently know that there is enough time and energy to care for those I love *AND* myself. Making room for myself is an issue I’ve struggled with my entire adult life. Having my counselor point out the hypocrisy was a bold reality check.

I inherently know being a better me makes me a better spouse, a better parent, and a better employee. But until my counselor helped me connect those dots, I never understood HOW to include myself. It’s amazing how a simple shift in mindset has given me permission to prioritize my own self-care. And what a blessing to realize that being a better me even helps me be a better Christian!

Thought for the Day: Gracious God, let me take as much joy in caring for myself as I do in meeting the needs of others. I am grateful for your bountiful gifts and am delighted to be one of them. Guide me to care for all of your blessed creations, knowing that I can serve you better by including myself.

We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. If you need a place to get started, consider the suggestions on the How to Pray page.
