Divine Chaos

This sermon begins a new series on the names of God that are found in scripture. Each name is uniquely descriptive, and can give us precious insight into the character and nature of God.

This week, we look at “I AM”, the name God used when encountering Moses at the burning bush. “I AM” is also the root behind the Hebrew name YAHWEH. As we see in this sermon, God is letting us know that God will not be controlled by us — an insight that has profound meaning for how I relate to God, and how I live.

An Unlikely Candidate

Do you think of yourself as the last person God might choose to do something important or worthwhile in this world?

Well, then, congratulations! As we see from our examples in scripture, that’s exactly the sort of person God chooses.  Strange, huh?

Listen or watch as we examine this counter-intuitive way that God works, and look at ways we can lay aside our doubt and have confidence that God can and will use us.

Knock, Knock, Knocking on Heaven’s Door

This was the first Sunday with our new Worship Arts Minister, so we explored and thought together about worship.

Some people seem to always get a lot out of worship.  It’s like they have a shortcut to the presence of God.  And others of us are left wondering, “What am I not getting here?  What am I missing?”

Listen or watch as we dig into what it takes for great worship.

A Brief History of Death

So what really happens when a person dies?

We’re not talking about the heaven and hell part, but before that — after the moment of death and before our arrival at our appointed destination.  Would it surprise you to know that not all Christians agree?

This sermon explores several different models Christians have used to understand death and explore their scriptural bases.

Jesus for President!

Being a Christian affects every part of our lives, even how we see our nation and government.  So, what would Jesus do — if he were here today living as a citizen in America?

Watch or listen for a thought-provoking, nonpartisan examination of how our faith ought to affect our conduct as citizens.  This part of our discipleship matters as much as any other, so let’s give it careful thought.

Sacred Pause

This sermon concludes the series on prayer.

We’ve talked for weeks now about all these different methods of praying.  Maybe you’ve experimented with some of them, but they haven’t “worked” or  seemed just OK.

This sermon explores how life can move to a sacred rhythm, where prayer — whatever form you use — will be deep and meaningful.

When Words Fail

Do you ever feel “stuck” in prayer?  Like you’re just saying the same words over and over?  Or maybe you’ve run completely out of words, and don’t even know what else to say.

This sermon looks at two ways to pray that are “beyond” words — one conventional, one unconventional.

Dreamers and Doers

On this Pride Weekend, we’re taking a look at a story of hope from the Old Testament — the story of Nehemiah.

Nehemiah and his compatriots made their mark on history, and we — who live when, for the first time ever, GLBT equality is within sight — can do the same.  Listen for a message of great encouragement.

Stairway to Heaven

We’re continuing our series that looks at the many ways there are to pray.

Have you ever heard of people praying with icons? What’s that all about? Some swear by it, while others say it’s contrary to scripture.

Listen as we investigate yet another ancient form of prayer and assess its relevance to us today.

Near, Far, Wherever You Are

We’re continuing our series that looks at the many ways there are to pray.

This sermon looks at praying with home altars. This may be something you’ve never considered before (or you’ve considered it with suspicion), but it can help break down the false division between sacred (church) and secular (home).

This ancient form of prayer may be just the thing that works for you!
