The Domino Effect

Today’s scripture: Romans 10:14-21 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (Angie Eden):

Ever wonder who was the first person to set up a row of dominoes and watch them tumble over? I’m guessing it must have happened during a particularly boring game, which could have been any ole’ game since the whole concept of matching dots seems boring to me. I’ve never played dominoes but I’ve definitely played with them. No world records or anything, but I’ve enjoyed setting them up and knocking them down a time or two.

Paul doesn’t use the term “domino effect” in today’s scripture but he certainly creates a chain reaction when he explains how people come to believe and trust in a divine Spirit of Love. Looking at it backwards, starting at the beginning, it goes like this:  you experience Love, you share with someone what Love has done for you, that someone hears your testimony, and now that someone trusts in the Love you’ve shared.

Paul tells us that not everyone is ready to listen to this Love. But like that all important first domino, if we fail to share, we fail to start the whole Love chain. “But unless Christ’s Word is preached, there’s nothing to listen to.”

Thought for the day: Go out and start a Love chain. Be the first domino — share something Love has done in your life recently — and put Love into motion. Your chain may never end.
