Patience & Trust: A New Hope

Today’s scripture: Isaiah 8:16-22 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (Ernest Disney-Britton):

How patient and trusting are you? In the climactic battle scene in the first Star Wars movie, Luke Skywalker begins to activate his robot’s targeting system so that he can shoot and destroy the Death Star. Suddenly he hears a disembodied voice give different instructions: “Use the Force, Luke. Let go.” Luke trusts the voice and strikes the target dead-on. Luke Skywalker wins the day! Isaiah 8:16-22 is not about Star Wars, but it is about letting go and trusting God, and that’s tough for me. I want an immediate answer and a detailed plan. Today’s verse, however, reminds me that God has already given me all the answers I need — bound-up and complete. All I need to do is trust.

Question for the day: Do you trust God enough to let go?
