Riches

Today’s scripture: Isaiah 33:17-24 (NRSV) (The Message) (KJV) What might God be saying to me?

My thoughts (James Hendrix):

In 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamen (King Tut), the boy king of Egypt who is estimated to have died in 1323 BC when he was 18 years old. Located in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, the tomb contained more than 5,000 priceless objects, including furniture, chariots, silver, and King Tut’s burial mask. According to researchers, the treasures were buried with King Tut to allow him to enjoy a safe and blissful existence in death.

Unlike King Tut’s tomb, Jesus’ burial place was not filled with magnificent treasures. But his Heavenly Father did provide him with a “grave among the rich,” a grave that proved to be honorable, and one that prepared Christ for his glorious resurrection. Christ did not need earthly treasures in his tomb to ease his journey in death. Instead, his Father gave him power over death so that we might see him as the King of Life who offers us eternal life in his holy city of Jerusalem.

Thought for the day: Heavenly Father, thank you for the promise of eternal life where we will behold you, the King of Kings in the beauty of your holiness.
