The “Ifs” That Enslave Me – Henri Nouwen Society

I really hope that many of us are considering our Rule of Life for 2019. The sermons are helping to guide us and the Be Still devotionals the last few weeks have been deliberately focussed on helping us through the process. One of the most difficult things we have to over come is the expectations of everyone else – the world out there. Most of the time we know what we may need, and we can pray to God for discernment. But if we rely too much on the world to tell us what we need, it all gets distorted. We need to be a certain weight, have a certain look, wear certain clothes, have a cerrtain job, live in a certain neighborhood, drive a certain car… it can get exhausting trying to follow all of that.

This is why it is so important to get ourselves grounded in God… "stayed" on God. Have we been thinking about how we can do that better? I feel this is the most imprtant part of our Rule of Life. Let's see what Henri Nouwen has to say in todays selected devotional.
