On Not Loving My Neighbor

When I was in seminary, one of the profound things that came to me is that we throw the word “love” around so much; “God is love”, “Love your neighbor”, “Love, Love, Love…” It made me realize we throw the word around so much, but yet, it is the hardest thing we are called to do. Think about it.

When someone says or does something that is just a little irritating, how do you respond? And, when you realize later that the little irritating thing is actually true, how do you feel?

What happens when someone cuts us off from traffic, cuts in front of us in line, doesn’t care for their yard as others do in the neighborhood, doesn’t agree with you on a lot of things, etc. etc. You can name your own thing.

Recognizing our capacity to love, or not love, is something we could do better so we can work on loving others in a better way. Read todays selected devotional from the United Church of Christ.
